The End of This Year’s Ocean College Voyage!

On Sunday the 3rd of April 2022 the Pelican arrived in Emden marking the end of this year’s six-month Ocean College Voyage.

For six months of the year, Ocean College transforms the Pelican of London into ‘a sailing classroom’, creating an adventurous and exciting alternative to traditional lessons in an old dusty school building.

Over the past six months the students onboard the Pelican have visited loads of really cool places across the globe. The voyage crew first arrived onboard on the 26th of September 2021 to begin two days of training before departing from Kiel on the 30th of September. From Kiel, the Pelican headed to Delfzijl, Amsterdam, Dartmouth, Vigo, Porto, Lisbon, Lanzarote, Tenerife, La Palma, Crossed the Atlantic, Antigua, Cartagena, Panama, San Jose, conducted a land programme in Costa Rica, Golfito, Panama, Nassau, Bermuda, crossed the Atlantic, Horta, Dartmouth ending in Emden. During this time there were balls, shanty nights, life lessons learnt, and lots of exploring. The voyage crew even gained the responsibility to run the ship! Head over to our voyage tracker you can look back at the full voyage route and where we visited, and see photographs taken locally: https://my.yb.tl/tspelican .

The Pelican arrived in Emden on Sunday with the yards manned by students singing shanties from the depths of their lungs. There they were reunited with  families and friends, laughs and tears were shed, and even before they left the ship some were asking us if they could re-join as watch leaders during future voyages!

This has been another successful voyage with our close partner Ocean College and we look forward to next year’s voyage, starting in September.
