At Seas Your Future we have our very own Degree Apprentice, Yasmin Deter. Here’s what Yasmin had to say about her experience:
“Hi I’m Yasmin the Marketing and Communications Coordinator at Seas Your Future. This week is National Apprenticeships Week, bringing together businesses and apprentices across the country to shine a light on the positive impact that apprenticeships make to individuals, businesses and the wider economy.
Alongside my role at Seas Your Future, I am also studying a Chartered Manager undergraduate degree at the University of Kent.
Degree apprenticeships combine work with higher-level learning, and which leads to an undergraduate or postgraduate degree. Apprentices spend most of their week at work. But they also spend at least 20 per cent of their time in off-the-job study or training. For me I spend four days a week working and one day a week studying.
This combination has been really beneficial in both my studies and job progression. It feels as if as soon as I’m taught a topic at university I’m also applying it in my job which is totally the way I learn as I need to do something to actually properly understand it.
I think that Apprenticeships are or should be the future as you gain both knowledge and experience at the same time.”
