We had a busy and exciting Friday and Saturday in Plymouth after finishing our final voyage of summer 2023!! The trainees disembarked the Pelican on Friday morning after a ten-day STEM at Sea voyage led by our Head of Science Dr Charlotte Braungardt. On Friday afternoon, Stuart Elford, from Devon & Plymouth Chamber of Commerce, and Fresh Air Studios Ltd climbed aboard to record Stuart's podcast, In Conversation With... Featuring our CEO Adrian Ragbourne, Captain Ben Wheatley, 1st Mate Tamsin Lambert, Scientist and Animator Hannah Whitman from Science Animation Studio and previous Trainee, and now Watch Leader, Mara Entfellner. It was a pleasure to have them aboard recording, thank you to everyone involved. Make sure to keep an eye out for the release of the episode.
Following the podcast recording, at 6pm invited guests had a tour of the Pelican and a presentation evening at the National Marine Aquarium. This included Seas Your Future partners, sponsors and friends, and Devon & Plymouth Chamber of Commerce members.
The trainees gave exceptional presentations about their time aboard which brought tears to many attendees eyes. Thank you so much to Kelly from Devon & Plymouth Chamber of Commerce for helping with the planning, logistics and execution of the event, we couldn't have done it without you! Also, a big thank you to the National Marine Aquarium for hosting our event, it was such a fantastic venue.
The morning after the event in Plymouth, we had an open ship from 10am to 4pm which was very successful. Thank you to everyone who explored Pelican and learnt more about the work that we do. Thank you to all involved, including those mentioned above, Lipson Academy and Discovery College, for providing trainees, and Cattewater Harbour Commissioners for being very helpful in finding us a secure berth while the windy weather was passing through, and then such a great central berth in Plymouth for our open day.
We look forward to returning to Plymouth in the Future!
